    Get PDF
Information and communication technologies (ICT) are the basis for the implementation of modern logistics processes in container terminals. ICT possess a large potential for the use in various activities on container terminals. One of the most important roles of ICT is the ability to connect container terminals with other subjects in the port community, creating the Port Community System. Many different aspects of ICT application on container terminals makes ICT one of the key resources and a desirable investment, without which it is virtually impossible to progress and achieve the goal to provide timely and quality services and to satisfy the customerā€™s needs. This paper aims at researching the role of ICT in container terminals and the types of ICT systems with the emphasis on the planning system for transhipment activities, as well as at giving an overview of virtual logistics as a special blend of logistics and ICT on container terminals

Rad istražuje ulogu klasifikacije podataka (Data Classification) i upravljanja životnim ciklusom informacija (Information Lifecycle Management) u objedinjenim sustavima informatičko-telekomunikacijske razmjene podataka i poruka u lučkom okruženju (Port Community Systems). The purpose of this paper is to research the role of the Data Classification (DC) and Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) processes in Port Community Systems (PCS). Issues that are likely to be encountered in the implementation of such systems are defined by the complexity of the PCS stakeholders\u27 own ICT and organizational systems and are therefore clearly outlined. Furthermore, several data classification models are proposed, which are derived from the standard methodology of information systems security. The paper identifies possible key issues during the DC/ILM system implementation and finally proposes suggested implementation paths in order to overcome operational difficulties

    Get PDF
The paper analyses the features of public coastal liner shipping, public transport services in Croatia and the Croatian seaport system. Business processes within the system of public line transport services are analyzed ā€“ the management process, the fundamental process (transportation) and the support processes. The shortcomings of the existing system are stated, and improvement of the system by using information technology is proposed. The authors present the necessary adaptations of the public coastal liner shipping system with the goal of increasing system functionality, and the development of management tools (and the public coastal liner shipping services in general) by information system implementation ā€“ the appropriately designed information system, combined with standardized system elements. Such system will ensure a higher level of efficiency, together with stability and business continuity

The paper researches the usage of ARIS Express process modeling tool in creation of economically sustainable information security management system in seaport clusters. Basic concepts of information security in seaport cluster stakeholderā€™s organizations are detailed, and relations and interactions between organizations and their environment are researched. Portfolio approach to information security is being endorsed along with quantification of total levels of the risk and the resulting cost of information security. The authors identify two basic process paths of information security in seaport clusters: basic activities and supporting activities. Furthermore, main components of both are being researched in detail, along with their interactions that create a robust system of information security management in seaport clusters. Process flow of all activities is constructed by using business process model implementation of ARIS Express software

Internet of Things (IoT) is a completely new paradigm of interconnected computing devices in the market segment that has started emerging from 2013, while trends have been recognized in 2014 and most predictions are related to the period until 2020. Anticipating widespread use of IoT technology in logistics chains reported by leading sector players, a dedicated logistics testbed IoT platform named MiOT is created and tested using Raspberry PI minicomputer, with research goal to evaluate possibilities of integration of the logistics IoT platform inside existing Windows corporate domains

Seaport cluster labour cost reduction ā€“ a modelling approach

    Get PDF
The subject of this research are administrative processes related to a shipā€™s arrival to seaports, typically attributed to elevated levels of cost of labour required to complete the related administrative tasks. In the previous phases of the research, an average expected cost of the administrative labour cost in traditional seaport clusters in Croatia was identified and quantified on an hourly basis. This research continues in its aim by using the results of the previous research as a starting point, and proposes a reengineered simulation model of the administrative process. The main hypothesis is that the usage of such a new model will result in a measurable decrease of the required labour cost. The main hypothesis is confirmed by simulations and calculations of the labour cost reduction

Facilitating Seafarers Employment Using a Common Database

    Get PDF
A key part of the maritime crewing agent business is the employment of seafarers (apart from drafting contracts between ship owners and seafarers), finding suitable personnel to fill the job vacancies advertised by ship owners. Maritime crewing agencies generally keep records of seafarers in their own databases. However, those databases often happen to fall short of the requested professionals (officers) and/or the support staff. In such cases, agencies spend a lot of time on finding the personnel possessed of the required qualifications and experience. This paper researches the positive and negative sides of a common database of seafarers, their meaningfulness or drawbacks, and the attitudes of maritime crewing agencies relating to common databases. A survey was conducted among Croatian maritime crewing agencies in order to obtain information on their operations and opinions concerning the proposed common seafarer database
